Motherhood: Joy with a side of guilt

(From the draft archives, back in August)

Felicity said her first sentence the other day.

I think it’s safe to say all of our children are “late talkers”.

So, this is the first time that she’s put two words together in what would be considered “a sentence”.

I actually wasn’t there for it.

Mr. French told me over the phone and we marveled at her progress together.

She was at dinner with the family and she looked around the table and said,

“Mom work.”

The other problem of having speech delayed children is that you have to have this conversation multiple times a day.

F: Mom?

Me: Yes, Felicity?

F: Daddy. (giggles)

Me: Yeah.

F: Mommy?

Me: Yes?

F: Daddy?

Me: Daddy’s at work.

F: Oh.

F: Moooom?!

Me: Whaaaat?!

F: Daddy. (giggles)

Me: Yeah, where is that guy when you need him?

I walked in the house after work. Felicity was up and she came running.

F: Mom!

Me: Felicity! Did you miss me? I missed you.

F: Daddy work?

Me: Not today, it’s Saturday.
