The secret to life: marry the right person

On the Sunday after we moved, but before we went on “vacation”, we had some friends over. (I think this is why we’ve earned the mostly overblown reputation for being laid back. We’re mostly just crazy.)

We were showing them the house and they were marveling that we were completely unpacked. (And we were completely unpacked.) We’re always surprised that people stay packed for so long. Even if we moved all of our stuff, we’re almost always, completely unpacked in three days. With pictures on the wall.

It’s simple, really.

I pack and he unpacks.

i do think you should give a class. or at least come and help me. =)
we seem to be mostly in a stage of he packs and he unpacks around here. i am … well … pregnant … while moving … again (at least baby’s not coming in a matter of DAYS this time) … and so over all of it. um, yeah, it’s gonna take us a LOT longer than 3 days this time. but this will be the first time since we’ve been married that we’ve had all of our stuff (ok, 95%) with us and not in storage somewhere. and the first time in a long time that we’ll be able to put pictures on the wall. and we haven’t had a house since 2004. i don’t even know what all that stuff is, let alone where it’s all going to get put away. but i am excited to find out – it’ll be like opening our wedding presents all over again! =)

We’ve had the same thing. We got it all together in Ohio, and it was really fun to look at everything again. (Although we ended up getting rid of stuff, since we’d lived without it for so long, anyway.)

I’d love to help but I’m sure I’m much slower moving than you right now. I’m so tired. I took a nap yesterday and then still went to bed at 9:30 and then slept in. And my feet have started to swell. It’s too early for this, isn’t it?

It probably also helps that you are only living with 30% of your stuff. 🙂

The real question is, how do you have the reputation for being laid back when you can be unpacked in three days?
We moved on Memorial Day weekend last year. We hung up curtains last week. And yet, no one has ever called me laid back!
There are boxes in the attic that we never unpacked — and have no intention of unpacking in the near future.
We operate on a she packs, she unpacks philosophy though. That is, unless it’s something that belongs in a garage or shed.

Good point. It’s always been a mystery to us, too.

I’ve never lived anywhere long enough to get curtains. I seriously don’t even know how. Unpacking is one thing. Decorating is another.
