All about Ethan

You can tell that Ethan is the fifth child by looking at his baby book.

I can just imagine the conversation now, 18 years before it happens.

Girlfriend: Oh, I want to see your baby book. By the way, your Mom seems really cool.*

Ethan: Uh, Okay.

Girlfriend: Um. How do you know this is yours? It’s….empty.

Ethan: Oh. That’s because my Mom had a blog. It doesn’t mean she didn’t love me.

Girlfriend: Uh-huh.

*What? It could happen.

So, this will be a little update on Ethan.

He is now 9 months old.

A couple days ago, his first tooth popped in.

And like his older late teething brother before him, Ethan started eating just last week. Prior to now, when I offered him food or put food in his mouth to try it out, he was convinced I was trying to kill him by poisoning or choking. This week I was eating something and he grabbed my hand and stuffed it in his mouth. And he’s been trying food ever since.

I don’t know his height or weight but he’s mostly wearing size 12 months. Except for pajamas. I realized last night that he’s been wearing the same sleepers since birth. They were a little big on him then and they’re a little snug on him now but, I think that’s got to be worth some frugal points. Plus, bonus points when I tell you that they were given to me for J (who wore them) and here you can see Miss Felicity wearing the same one.

He also did this:

I  realize that’s not very exciting but he had actually pushed it a fair distance at that point. Of course, I didn’t get my camera out in time to capture it all. (We were in a therapist’s office.) (Not that kind of therapist.) (Or that kind.)

Also, one cute thing I want to remember. Sometimes when I hold him on my shoulder and pat him on the back (usually at night when I’m putting him back to bed), he’ll pat my shoulder back.

Altogether now: Awwwwe.

He was one of my best sleepers as an infant. He slept through the night pretty early on. And kept it up for awhile. And now he gets up at least twice a night. Sometimes more, sometimes less, but he hasn’t slept through the night in months. I just thought I’d throw that in there in case you were getting jealous.

We’ll still keep him though.

For a couple more years anyway.

She just doesn’t get enough credit

And if this isn’t an advertisement for Golden Retrievers as family pets, I don’t know what is.

It’s also an advertisement on the un-tastiness of fur.

Like we all needed a video to figure that out.

How to lose the baby weight, quickly and easily, every time

You guys, I promise this will work.

Step one: pick up the baby.

Step two: step on the scale.

Step three: Now this is the tricky part, step off the scale, put the baby down and then step back on.

Congratulations! You just lost 14 lbs!

(Yes, six weeks=14 lbs. Dude. Who is feeding this kid?)

(Don’t answer that.)

Pat yourself on the back and repeat as necessary.

Don’t have your own baby? Grab your dog or someone’s toddler.

Results may vary. Void where prohibited. Not recommended for use with cats or hamsters.

(The fluff is very deceiving.)

You don't get these kind of cheeks by sleeping all day. Wait....never mind.

Filed under Apparently I have no shame, Boys will be boys, She's having a baby, Why does no one get my jokes?, With tongue placed firmly in wall of mouth

In other words…

This boy, it will surprise no one…

likes to eat breakfast.

and brunch.

and lunch.

and dinner.

with snacks.

and a nightcap.

And that you-just-woke-up-at-2-am-and-you’re-starving snack.

I can’t really blame him.

I’m a pretty good cook.

Did you see his new outfit?

I think it’s pretty cute, but when he has a wet diaper, it’s a leettle too tight.

I tried to use up the size one diapers but I just couldn’t. I had to move to size 2 today.

In other words, Ethan is doing very well.

Well, they say everything is bigger in Texas.

I stole that from my sister-in-law, who emailed it after I joked about how big my baby was.

But I’m beginning to think it’s true.

Ethan had a follow-up appt. yesterday and came in at 10 lbs. 5 oz.

He was 9 lbs. 8 oz. the week before.

Mr. French thought the last set of pictures I put up made Ethan look abnormal. Like it’s not normal for infants to lay quiet and still while their mother snaps their photo. But look, he’s waving his arm. And sorta smiling.

Now he’s making a funny face and waving his arms.

I’m not sure, but this might be a gang sign.

The kids and I made that shirt for him. Before he was born.

Speaking of five, I took all five of my kids to the store and nobody said anything about having my hands full.

When we got to the check-out, the lady behind the counter looked excited that I was getting in her lane.

“Oh! How old is she?”

“Well, it’s a boy, but he’s about a week and a half.”

“Oh, I’m sorry. He’s so big. How much did he weigh?”

“Oh, it’s alright. He weighed 9-11.”

“Wow. They shore do make ’em big these days.”

Yes. They do, don’t they?
